Can I wear shimmer over 40?

Can I wear shimmer makeup over the age 40? This is a tricky question. But I say YES! Now here is the thing, shimmer should not be your enemy. Shimmer also comes in many different textures and consistencies. Now We all have different skin. Some have dry flaky patches, others texture (A.K.A. wrinkles) can be more defined than others, and pore size can cause issues for some. Know your skin and be honest with yourself!

Let’s get started on shimmer do’s and dont’s. The Number 1 thing to take note of is to stay away from any products that have any glitter in them, especially if your main concern is texture/wrinkles in your skin. Glitter products will settle in those wrinkles and those larger pores which will accentuate all of the above. Do product research before you purchase. Ask questions when shopping if you can. Most pressed powder shimmer products have come a long way. The textures are now more velvety and smooth when applied. Just make sure the pressed powder is a true shimmer and not a glitter. I love glitter! But glitter needs to be used on the right skin and on the right areas of the skin. I love cream and liquid shimmer products. I am in my 40’s and use cream or liquid products all the time. I very strongly recommend using a cream product for a shimmer or highlighted look, especially on the face. A cream or a liquid melts into your skin and gives such a beautiful shine/glow from within. You won’t be lighting up any runways with a cream/liquid! You can even layer a cream and a powder highlighter. Which gives a pretty effect as well. Just pay attention to any forehead lines, wrinkles around and on your eyes, plus deep pores around your cheeks and nose.

A shimmer makeup product can be used for anyone of any age! We all want to have the shine and glow. Mixing shimmers and mattes together can really compliment one another. Just know your placement and always apply with a light hand.

#1~Danessa Myricks Dew Wet Balm. It comes in many different shades for all skin tones. Hydrating balm infused with jojoba oil and other hydrating ingredients. Great to wear alone, over foundation or powder.

#~2 Huda Beauty has many products I love. Huda Beauty has a glaze which is like a balm. Beautiful on all skin types! Huda Beauty also carries powder highlighters that are creamy and beautiful on the skin.

#~3 Ilia Beauty If you like clean beauty Ilia has you covered! They have a beautiful cream illuminatort stick. I use it everyday. Simple to use and goes on effortlessly.

#~4 Charlotte Tilbury (I love her products!) Beauty Light Wand. It is more considered a liquid in a tube. Easy to apply and great for all skin types

These are just several product that I love. I can go on and on. But all these are easy to purchase and find, and are gorgeous on the skin. I use all of these not only on myself but on my clients.

Glowing skin…

Welcome to my first ever blog! Wow this is something I have been wanting to do for so long! Okay I am not a writer by any means. My grammar is terrible! LOL. My husband and friends tend to tease me about this all the time, but I am who I am! No grammar police over here! As I get older and evolve in my career I found I love giving makeup advice. Why not make it easy for others to find answers to simple questions they may have and get some honest insight on products. I chose Glowing skin as my first blog because that is a question I get most. Melisa what products should I buy? Melisa I am so overwhelmed when I shop, can you help me? The answer is YES! I am here to help!

Who doesn't want to have that glowing skin?! I Know I do! The number one thing to remember about any makeup application is skincare/skin prep. I am a firm believer in treating your skin with the right products in the correct order that will give you that natural glow. Makeup becomes secondary. Now I feel I can go on and on about skin care and skin prep. But that’s a seperate conversation. I want to go over several of my favorite glowing skin makeup products that are easy to use and are not a heavy makeup. I want to give you ideas of products I love that are not a foundation or heavy makeup. All these products I am going to talk about can be worn alone or layered if needed. I love products that can have multiple uses for an easy daytime look or amp it up if needed. I truly love all of them.

let’s get to it. I want to start off with a tried and true product. I use this on all of my clients and myself as well. The product is Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter. Literally I LOVE this product. It is in a liquid form. Hollywood Flawless Filter comes in several shades. This is not a foundation so it will not give you coverage. You can use this product in different ways. One way to apply this product (always to clean and prepped skin) is to apply this all over the face with your fingers or a brush. I typically apply this all over the face depending on ones skin texture. You can be more specific and apply this to the areas you want that natural glow. Now you can stop here and wear this all alone. Which looks so beautiful and natural! This is a quick way to throw something on in the morning to help blur out any imperfections and balance out your skin. Now you can apply your foundation right on top of the Hollywood Flawless Filter as well. This makes any foundation look beautiful. You can also us Hollywood flawless filter as a highlighter and apply to the high points of your face you want lite up!

Second product I also LOVE is by HudaBeauty. This is her Glowish multi dew skin tint. This product is AMAZING. I use this all the time on myself. For a on the go daytime look or even when I kick it up a notch for a stronger makeup look. If you want a dewy look or fantastic glow this product will be you new BFF. You apply Glowish all over the face. A brush is the best application with this product but your fingers can be used as well. Glowish will give you a sheer coverage with such a beautiful dewy finish. It will brighten your complexion and give a soft focus finish. Plus Glowish skin tint has good-for-skin ingredients. It is a win win!

Alright my next product is like a little angel to me. I came across this beautiful product at my local store Beauty Heroes here in Novato CA. Beauty heroes is 1,000% all CLEAN beauty. Please check Beuaty Heroes out rather in person or on line. Insanely gorgeous clean beauty products. Sorry I got side tracked but I adore that store! The product I adore is by Maya Chia The Highlight of the day. This comes in 4 colors. It is in a glass dropper bottle so it is in a liquid form. The Highlight of the day needs to be shaken well before every use to distribute the pigment. It is made with the highest quality, organic and wild crafted ingredients. This product smells wonderful, and looks so beautiful on the skin. I use this product just like Hollywood Flawless Filter. Apply all over the face to be worn alone or foundation on top. You can even mix The Highlight of the day into your foundation and apply it that way. Or apply it on the high points of the face where you want that glow. I just wanted to give you my top 3 products I love (not in any order). These are my opinions, I do not get paid to talk about them. These are my go to’s for myself and clients. I believe anyone can use these for any age or skin type. Be creative and don’t be afraid to try new things!
